RSS Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and it allows you to see when websites have added new content. Film Shed has RSS feeds for many sections of the site, including individual feeds for tags, along with project-specific and forum thread-specific feeds. We also use Twitter to post information about new site features and you can subscribe to this useful feed here.
How do I use RSS?
Most modern browsers such as Firefox, IE7, Opera or Safari will display a
icon in your address bar whilst you are browsing Film Shed. If you click this, you'll get the RSS menu for the page or section you are currently viewing. The same icons are also displayed at the bottom of most pages or sections of the site.
Alternatively, you can use the links below to subscribe to the most popular feeds.
Custom Feeds
If you look at the URL of your feed you'll notice that it may include information about the current applied filters such as project type and region. This useful feature allows you to create custom feeds. Some examples might be:
To create a custom feed, visit one of the directories from the main menu (such as the Projects Directory), select the appropriate filters and press Apply. Click the
icon at the bottom of the list of results or in the address bar of your browser to generate your custom RSS feed. You'll probably want to rename it. When a new item is added to the site that matches your filter criteria, it will automatically appear in your custom feed.
Individual Project Feeds
Each project has its own feed which you can subscribe to in order to receive the latest updates from that project. To subscribe to a project, simply click on the
icon on the project page. Another way to receive updates from projects you are interested in is to add them to your tracker, and you can generate a single feed of all your tracked projects by visiting your tracker, and clicking on the
icon at the bottom of the page or in the address bar of your browser.
Using Film Shed RSS feeds on your own website
You are encouraged to display Film Shed feeds on your website and an acknowledgement of Film Shed as the source of the feed would be greatly appreciated.
